The Signal
Best Self Reflection

Part of getting clear is dialing in on your strengths, so you can work in your Zone of Genius. The Zone of Genius worksheet helps you dial in on your own perceived strengths. This exercise is intended to help you see the strengths others see in you, and the impact you've had on them. These tools together will help you dial in on the strengths you can build a career, and a life, around.

This exercise uses other people as mirrors. You'll ask real people from different parts of your life to describe specific moments when they saw you at your best. Then you'll look for what keeps showing up.

This is Get Clear work. You are building a foundation.

How it works
Step One

Copy the template

This is a real Google Form, built and ready to go. Click the button below, then choose "Make a copy." It saves straight to your own Google Drive. Signal Strength never sees it, and never sees what anyone sends back to you.

Once it's yours, rename it with your own name and adjust the intro message if you'd like. Leave the core question as it is.

Step Two

Send it to 10-15 people

Use the "Send" button inside your copy of the form to get a link, then send that link to people from different parts of your life: current and past colleagues, managers, clients, mentors, friends, family, teachers. Range matters more than depth in any one area.

Not sure what to say when you send it? There are copy-and-paste email templates further down this page.

Step Three

Read what comes back

Look for patterns, and use this to inform a self-portrait of yourself at your best.

The one question that matters

"Can you describe a time, or a few times, when you saw me at my best?"

This question is intentionally open-ended. "What are my strengths?" invites people to answer analytically. Asking for a specific moment bypasses that filter. You get what they actually remember, not what they think you want to hear.

Send it their way

Here's a template of an email you can send. Copy, paste, and edit as you like.

Everything lives in your own Google account. The form, the list of people you send it to, and every response they leave: all of it stays in your Drive. Signal Strength has no access to any of it.
